I’m a simple guy who loves traveling, so that I can explore beautiful sights, cultures, foods, and hotels abroad.
- I’ve found the best way to accomplish this is to exist in a place, hopefully long enough to get a small glimpse of what real-life is like there, outside of the tourist bubble.
- I like to stay in nice hotels and eat both local street food as well as higher-priced cuisine at some of the incredible restaurants I’ve found abroad.
- I like adventure, but if I have my choice of the most popular tourist attraction vs. a locals-only restaurant that is fairly unknown to most foreigners, I’ll choose the latter.
Throughout my 20’s I dreamed of traveling around the world aimlessly. I was able to successfully talk myself out of it every time I tried to turn the dream into reality. Then one day I realized that life is short and the time for excuses was over. We can spend our whole lives thinking “I’ll do that some day”. Why not do it today, if you are really able to do so?
A few things that make this easier:
- I am not married and have no children. This is a fairly major factor (unless you can take the fam on the road) in my opinion, and is all the more reason to get your traveling plan started, if you’re still single.
- I work from home. If you are in a position of being able to work remotely and have a desire to travel, the two make for a great pair.
Will you enjoy reading this? It depends, me thinks.
Although I travel lightly (one guitar and one small bag), I’m not a “backpacker”. I think the idea of backpacking through Asia on $10/day and all the adventures that come with that experience, is adventurous and romantic. But it’s not me. If you are in this mode of traveling, you may find my hotel-posts less applicable. If you are on the look out for some of the most amazing hotels, resorts and culinary experiences abroad, you may pick up some useful info. I welcome any anonymous feedback on how to improve.
